The Duo

Close up, and honest

Abalone is an intimate acoustic country duo built on the easy chemistry of Alex Hamilton and Kimberly Fournier. Alex's acoustic guitar and Kim's expressive violin and vocals weave the storytelling soul of classic country with the heart of rock, delivering emotionally charged performances in an authentic acoustic setting — two voices, two instruments, and nothing to hide behind.

It's a small stage on purpose. With nowhere to hide, every harmony has to be real, every story has to land, and every room — theater, listening room, or fireside — gets the songs up close.

Alex Hamilton

Acoustic guitar & vocals — one half of Abalone

Alex Hamilton doesn't just play music — he lives inside it. An Upper Midwest multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, and sound and recording engineer, he moves between guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and the console with the same restless curiosity, chasing the feeling inside every song.

In Abalone he pares all of that down to one acoustic guitar and a voice — the foundation Kim's violin dances over, and the steady hand under every story the duo tells.

Kimberly Fournier

Violin & vocals — one half of Abalone

Kimberly Fournier — violinist and vocalist — is the aching heart of the band's sound. Her classically trained violin weeps and soars between the verses, and her voice carries the quiet weight of songs lived, not just learned — tender one moment, fierce the next.

Billed as "Kimberly Rae," the Northern Michigan University graduate (Class of 1996) pours unguarded feeling into every note, turning each performance into something you feel in your chest.
